In the alternate nostril breathing exercise, you inhale through one nostril, hold your breath and exhale through the other nostril. We demonstrate this with the right hand to help close the nostrils. Sit down comfortably. Close the mouth and breathe slowly through the nose. Close the right nostril and inhale through the left nostril while counting to four. Close both nostrils and hold the breath while counting to 16. Open the right nostril and exhale while counting to eight. Without pause, inhale through the right nostril while counting to four. Hold the breath while counting to 16. Finish the round by exhaling through the left nostril while counting to eight. Repeat this five to ten times.
