I love a glass of wine in the evening, but I have to give it up. Now, some cultures think it is okay to drink alcohol while pregnant. For example, in Germany it is not if a pregnant woman drinks beer throughout her pregnancy, her baby would have curly hair. In France, it is believed that if you drink red wine while you are pregnant, your child will grow up to be a great lover. I do not even want to think about that. Whether it is in the form of beer, wine or liquor, alcohol crosses placenta and it cumulates in your baby’s blood stream. Because your baby’s liver is immature, it cannot metabolize the alcohol. The end result possible irreversible birth defects ranging from physical abnormalities to behavioral problems such as hyperactivity and attention deficit disorder. Motherhood is hard enough without having to deal with those issues. Researchers do not real know when it is safe during the pregnancy to drink. Let alone how much and what kind of alcohol would be safe. Play it parenting and do not drink.
