Host: What are the age considerations when preparing for kindergarten? Dr. Rene Hackney: Age may play a significant factor especially the child is right on the cast for school readiness and their birthday happens to fall on that August or September range. It is important especially in urban areas because many families these days seem to tend to hold children back a year. We have had families that are offered -- say they are holding their child back just so they will be big enough for high school wrestling, when they down the road which seems silly to think about a kindergarten age, but if the majority of that if majority of your neighbors are holding their kids back and you start your child the day they turn five, they maybe going into a classroom with children who are six-and-a-half turning seven years old. So, there is real wide range not suggesting that you hold children back just because they are on the young age, on the young end of things, but just to think about that with regard to what neighbors are doing.
