Angelica: In our increasingly fast-paced world, it's no wonder that the stresses of everyday are getting to us more than ever. But what happens when you want to do more than just pop a pill? I am Angelica from watchmojo.com, and today we delve deeper into the world of acupuncture. Can you tell us a little more about what acupuncture is. Oliver Roy: How it's practiced nowadays, it derives a lot from traditional Chinese medicine. But we can safely say that acupuncture is basic human knowledge in a lot of ways. We have known since the dawn of time that pressure, suction, heat, and cold can bring relief or aggravations to a lot of ailments. In the beginning, acupuncture was practiced a lot by people that would be considered to be Shamans. This part of the practice has been lost mainly through the process of the communism in China, because Mao took the power, they started to create a unified version of traditional Chinese medicine and create something that could be taught in universities worldwide. Since then, acupuncture is more of a scientific approach that uses rational thinking and a diagnosis based on observation. Angelica: What are some of the popular ailments that people come with when they see an acupuncturist? Oliver Roy: People come sometimes because they are have insomnia, because they have a lot of anxiety, because they have digestive disorders, back pain, abdominal pain. A lot of people come to find relief from allergy, respiratory difficulties, asthma. Angelica: Is there a way to track results or mark when you have been cured? Male Speaker: Usually, the patient can tell, because he feels better. People, when then get acupuncture, they start improving on all areas of their life. Even though someone may come for insomnia for example, their headache is gone, they may start noticing that their digestion is better, that relations with people are trying to be more harmonious. It's hard to tell when actual healing is done, because you can always be more energetic and always feel better. It's something that has no limits.
