Hi, I’m Cynthia Sass, prevention’s nutrition director and grocery guru. We’re here at Fairway’s beautiful deli. Deli meats can be a little bit confusing to shoppers especially if you’re trying to eat healthily. Some of them can be really heavily processed with a lot of sodium but fortunately, there are new products on the market that aren’t very processed. In fact there are a lot of natural meats on the market now that have no antibiotics, no hormones, no artificial flavorings and are very all natural. Deli meats can be one of the quickest, easiest ways to get in a lean protein source whether you’re putting it in a sandwich made of whole grain bread or into a wrap or a heater or just rolling it up and just eating it by itself. I definitely recommend looking for as natural as possible, look for deli meats with no hormones, no antibiotics, no artificial ingredients and no added nitrites, just really healthy, natural lean meat.
