A Collagen Treatment for Pregnancy Stretch Marks Dr. Travis Stork: Well, Drew is backstage in our procedure room performing a procedure on a woman who is seven months pregnant right now. So Drew, what exactly is going on back there? Dr. Drew Ordon: Okay, we’re going to give you some tips for stretch marks. More than 50% of pregnant women by six to seven months will developed a certain degree of stretch marks. What are stretch marks? Because of that expanding of the skin, you actually get tearing in the dermis, the collagen, the elastin. They get disarranged. They get pulled apart. It actually looks like streaking or tears in the skin right? Kelley West: Yes. Dr. Drew Ordon: Well, we have a solution for you that we’re going to talk about in one second but first we have Kathleen who’s seven months pregnant. How are you? Kathleen: Well, physically I feel great. Now my friends tell me that I have the pregnancy glow but I don’t feel that beautiful you know your skin is dry. Your bloated. Dr. Drew Ordon: She looks beautiful. Doesn’t she? Kelley West: Gorgeous. Dr. Drew Ordon: It sounds like you deserve a spa day. So actually we have something for you. We’re going to give you a spa day. And I have with me today is Kelly West from our own Rock Spa. And this is a new treatment. It’s the Progenics collagen facial, all safe products since this is collagen type one that we’re applying. The interesting thing with this product and I’ve create a little model. If you can imagine this is your epidermis and below that would be your dermis. We want to fix the collagen and the elastin that has been torn with this rapid stretching. So with the old collagen products the molecules were too big and would not penetrate into the skin, but with this product, they’ve ionized the collagen so you see that you get penetration what we call micro- penetration through the epidermis in the dermis to help rebuild collagen and elastin. So how are we doing over there Kelly you’re applying the masks right? Kelley West: Yes, I just applied it to Kath’s face. It’s one of the things a doctor Ordon, a lot of patients complain about when they’re pregnant is that they get a lot of discoloration, hyperpigmentation otherwise called the pregnancy mask. Dr. Drew Ordon: Now, what do you have on her tummy? Kelley West: On her tummy are the same thing our collagen bands and we use these for prevention of stretch marks that she already talked about it hydration to the tummy. Dr. Drew Ordon: And then finally the hands and the feet as well are being treated today. Again, you’re moisturizing and you’re putting the collagen back into those areas. Kelley West: Yes, and another thing that happens with pregnant women they tend to get acne breakouts. They’re hormones are going crazy. They’re over producing. This helps to treat the acne as well. Dr. Drew Ordon: Well, a good stuff and I saved the treatments that somebody that’s pregnant can do and enjoy your spa day you deserve it. Kathleen: Thank you. Dr. Drew Ordon: Okay. Dr. Lisa Masterson: That’s great.
