Kelly McBride Hi and welcome to Baby Belly Fitness. My name is Kelly McBride with Babyssentials.com. Today’s topic we’re talking about seven simple things that you can do to help alleviate back pain. Pregnancy is not easy on a mom’s body and that pain probably won’t come as a surprise to you. To help prevent and even alleviate back pain, be aware of your everyday movement, how you sit, stand or even move throughout your day. Here are some tips. Number one, be sure to practice good posture and body mechanics, they’re vital throughout your pregnancy. Also, stay fit. Regular exercising can help keep the muscles in your back strong. Such exercises like cat stretches and even pelvic tilt. Now pelvic tilts can be done in many positions but doing it on hands and knees is a simple way that you can start practicing. You want to take an inhale, keep your spine neutral and exhale. You want to tuck your pelvis. I like to think about drawing my tail underneath of me in between my legs. Inhale returns to normal and exhale will draw all that abdominals up and tuck your pelvis. Now you can also bring this into a full cat stretch which is a little bit more of arranged, so inhaling here and exhaling really drawing your body up and stretching out the length of your back. You can certainly take your head down and find that stretch comes all the way up to the back of your neck. This feels really great for pregnant moms especially in their third trimester. Also be sure to stand and sit with care. When sitting, choose a chair with good back support or put a pillow in the small of your back to support your body and sleep on your side and wearing the right gear is also quite effective for alleviating back pain. Be sure to choose shoes that have a good arch support that are low heeled. Consider alternative treatments. Treatments like chiropractic care and acupuncture had been proven to be quite effective in alleviating back pain. Lastly, back pain can be caused by other problems. So, if you have a pain that’s severe and doesn’t resolve with rest or time, this should motivate you to seek the help of your primary care physician. So I hope some of these tips could help. Thank you very much for watching, have a great day, this is Kelly McBride with babyssentials.com
