

The American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved the subspecialty of Vascular Neurology in 2003. A board-certified neurologist who has developed expertise in cerebrovascular disease and vascular diseases of the central nervous system is eligible to take the examination for certification in vascular neurology. After the 2009 examination, only neurologists who have completed an accredited fellowship in vascular neurology will be eligible for the certification examination.
