

Undersea and hyperbaric medicine is a subspecialty of emergency medicine. After completion of medical school, a doctor pursues three additional years of training in an emergency-medicine residency focusing on the care and treatment of people with acute, life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Emergency-medicine specialists then participate in an additional one to two years of fellowship training in undersea and hyperbaric medicine and are experts in treating:
