Pathologists are doctors who complete a three- to four-year residency training program in pathology. The pathologist uses information derived from the laboratory testing of body fluids and tissue samples to aid in the diagnosis, management of treatment and prognosis of disease. The Forensic Pathologist pursues an additional two years of fellowship training, and is an expert in investigating cases of sudden, suspicious and violent death. The Forensic Pathologist serves as coroner or medical examiner, and performs autopsies in this capacity.
