Body Mass Index

Body mass index (BMI) is a useful tool for categorizing weight. However, it is not likely to be useful for athletes because athletes have more muscle than do non athletes, which increases the weight-to-height ratio. BMI considers weight in relation to height using one of the following formulas:

BMI = weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared

BMI = kg/m2

BMI = weight in pounds divided by weight in inches squared multiplied by 703

BMI = ([lb/in2]×703)
