The Rockport Walk Test has been validated with healthy adults and is probably an easier test to complete than some of the other walking and jogging tests, such as the 12-minute run test (Dolgener et al. 1994; Kline et al. 1987). The Rockport test involves walking a mile for time and gives an estimate of your aerobic fitness using the total time and your heart rate, gender, and weight. The results are plugged into a formula that calculates oxygen consumption. As fitness improves, your mile time will decrease.
