(HealthDay News) -- The adenoids are lymphatic tissue, resembling the tonsils, found in the airway between the nose and back of the throat.

The adenoids have a tendency to swell, especially in younger children. The ADAM Medical Encyclopedia says common symptoms of enlarged adenoids include:

  • Dry mouth.
  • Cracked lips.
  • Bad breath.
  • Daytime breathing with the mouth open.
  • Breathing through the mouth, especially at night.
  • Restlessness while trying to sleep.
  • Chronic nasal stuffiness or runny nose.
