When a woman is treated for preterm labor (with steroids, tocolytic medications, and possibly bedrest or antibiotics), the goal is to delay delivery as long as possible. Many women who experience preterm labor go on to deliver around their due date.
However, when labor cannot be stopped-or if a medical condition makes continuing the pregnancy too risky-you need to prepare for a preterm delivery.
