Expectant women often have unanswered questions and fears about labor. There are many changes in a woman's body leading up to labor, making it difficult to determine which changes are true signs of labor. Labor is defined as uterine contractions that lead to changes in the cervix. The best solution is to discuss signs and symptoms of impending labor with your health care provider and use them as guidelines for the approach of labor. If you are unsure about anything, ask your health care provider.
Signs of labor include:
- contractions that become closer together and at regular intervals;
- contractions that become stronger with time;
- clear fluid from the vagina; and
- cervical changes.
