Food Allergy Complications

Anaphylaxis

As with most allergies, the major complication of a food allergy is an anaphylactic reaction that can quickly lead to a real emergency. If you know you have a food allergy, especially one that you may expose yourself to unknowingly, carry an auto-injection device with epinephrine.

Atopic dermatitis

One in three people with atopic dermatitis (also known as “eczema”) also have some sort of food allergy. An allergic reaction can worsen eczema symptoms.

Asthma

Food allergies can also trigger or exacerbate asthma symptoms.
