There is no cure for eczema. There are no medical tests that specifically check for the eczema. To properly diagnose eczema, your physician may start with a complete physical exam and will ask you questions about your symptoms and how long these symptoms have lasted. He or she will then recommend treatment options and lifestyle modifications to help prevent outbreaks or at least reduce their severity when they occur.
Patch Test
Although there is no specific test used to diagnose eczema, your doctor may perform a patch test to pinpoint certain allergens that trigger eczema symptoms, such as skin allergies associated with contact dermatitis (a type of eczema). During a patch test, an allergen is applied to a patch that is placed on the skin. If you are allergic to that allergen, your skin will become inflamed and irritated.
