Q: How will the new healthcare reform law affect Medicare?

From a Medicare patient standpoint, there is almost no impact. Medicare beneficiaries won’t see any changes to their benefits, or how they get benefits, in 2014.

From a provider standpoint, several reform initiatives aimed at cost control will impact healthcare providers. For example, Medicare will tie payment to quality of care, patient satisfaction, and outcome performance. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will be able to withhold portions of payments if hospitals do not meet performance measures.
