Booze is part of the American culture.

It’s pictured in advertising as the fuel to a good time. Alcohol manufacturer’s logos are seen all over major sporting events. It’s often part of nearly ever social occasion, even though more than 30 percent of Americans abstain from alcohol.

As of July 1, 2012, there were 2,126 breweries in America, cranking out 17.9 million gallons of beer a year.  That doesn’t include the hundreds of wineries and distilleries, too.

But Americans aren’t the global kings of alcohol consumption. In fact, Europeans drink more than any other continent on the planet.

We’ve compiled some interesting facts about America’s alcohol consumption and rated it against the big boozers.
