Welcome to 2009! As you rest up from the time you took off from work, and filled with decorating, family, friends, parties, gifts, shopping, traveling, and cleaning, I want to remind you to take a moment, and a deep breath, to remember that a new year brings an opportunity to choose to be present and consciously focus on what is important.
That might be heading back to bed with a cup of tea, a good book, or for more sleep, but I hope it also includes some reflection about the wonderful teenagers in your life! How are they - physically, emotionally, and spiritually? Is there something that excites them? Are they making a difference in the world? Are they prepared for the next phase of life? Do they know that you think they are wonderful, if not perfect? How did you last show them how you feel?
It is so easy to fill our days with the required "stuff" in life that I want to encourage us all to choose carefully which stuff we focus on in 2009 - whether it is health, finances, spirituality, politics, work, house, job, cars ..., make sure your teenagers know that they come first and that you are never too busy to stop and hug them, look into their eyes and beam with pride, or hear about their day! It will make your job as a parent much easier! Happy loving!
