Facebook Users Are Older

This little bit of information (from InsideFacebook.com)may actually impact your decision to let your 14-year old have a Facebook page. It seems that Facebook users are getting older. To be precise, of Facebook users in the United States:

• 12% are 13-17 years old;
• 43% are 18-25 years old;
• 23% are 26-34 years old;
• 14% are 35-44 years old;
• 5% are 45-54 years old; and
• 3% are 55-65 years old.

Women over 55 are the fasting growing demographic and users over the age of 26 are the fastest growing group on the social network. Although Facebook started for college students (a mere five years ago), they are no longer the majority of users.

If you let your teen become a user, I vote you require "friend" status, if not "best girl" - so that you have access to content and can discuss the appropriateness of the networking your teen participates in. It's a brave new world out there - be aware!
