Osler Symposium

TEXT SIZE: A A A

Although the following information is not strictly in the genre of outdoor medicine, I think it is important. This year marks the second Osler Symposium, entitled Doctoring in the 21st Century — Embracing the Challenge. I participated in last year’s symposium, which was remarkable for its focus on the well-being of medical professionals and others who choose to “give back.”

This year’s symposium will be held on October 20-23, 2012 in San Diego, CA. As I mentioned, the inaugural conference held in May 2011 was very well-received, and from what I see listed in the program, the 2012 program has the potential to be even better.

Doctoring in the 21st Century: Embracing the Challenge is definitely not a typical CME meeting. Instead, it focuses on the participant’s health and well-being, and his or her future in medicine. The topics in the conference are selected to address the challenges of medical practitioners, including teaching them skills and practices that will enhance their professional and personal lives.

The symposium was designed for physicians but is open to all healthcare professionals. Spouses and partners are more than welcome to attend.

Highlights of the 2nd Osler Symposium include:

  • Nationally and internationally renowned faculty who are recognized experts and leaders in their fields, who have unbridled passion for their work, a love of teaching, and belief in the need for, and purpose of, the program;
  • Ample time and opportunity to create a meaningful community with like-minded colleagues during meals, exercise and recreational activities, breakout sessions and panel discussions;
  • A sincere intention that participants will return home empowered and renewed.

I do not have any proprietary interest in this conference. I’m recommending it solely on its merits. If this sort of education and activity is of interest, I suggest that you visit the website at http://www.oslersymposia.org/
