Welcome to It's Funny on the Insides
Meet Ben Morrision: comic, actor, blogger, philanthropist, and Crohn's patient. He'll be regularly blogging for Healthline's new Crohn's Disease Center.
Hello Crohn’s friends. My name is Ben Morrison and I have a weird butt. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease in 1997 during my senior year of high-school and guess what? I still have it. You probably have it too, which means you’re also awesome.
While Crohn’s typically makes sufferers poop all the time, I have nasty obstructions where the whole pipeline seals itself off and I go days with unmoved bowels. My other friends with Crohn’s are jealous of my inability to poop, but I assure them it’s equally uncomfortable. When it decides to un-obstruct, trust me you don’t want to be anywhere near my bathroom. I call those "evac" days.
You may have picked up that I’m a comedian. Having begun stand-up comedy shortly after I was diagnosed with Crohn’s I quickly learned that nothing is funnier than the truth. In a weird way I’m thankful for Crohn’s as I have a never-ending supply of material lodged in my butt. While it is a nasty, debilitating condition, it’s a nasty debilitating condition that makes our poop all funny-like and as long as we’re sharing sometimes that can be funny too.
So welcome to my little corner of Healthline.com. I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Crohn’s weekly and I encourage you to write me with your stories, observations and smoothie recipes. While some of you might not be used to a humorous spin on Crohn’s I assure you, it’s funny on the insides. You just have to let it be.
I know we just met, but I like you. Be my friend on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter so we can keep up on what's going on inside our funny butts. Also, check out Ben Morrison's Pain in the Butt: a Comedy About Crohn's, the hilarious stand-up DVD that started it all.
