Introducing Best Practices for a Healthy Heart
As a busy cardiologist with a diverse practice, I discovered early on that my patients were hungry for information that would help them to take care of their own health. Although most came to see me for diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, what many people really wanted to know was how to avoid the problems that brought them to me in the first place.
I searched for years to find a credible and clear resource for my patients that would explain everything I wanted them to know about diet, exercise, lifestyle, supplements, and hormones. In the process, I realized that there was a great deal that I didn’t know, or only partly understood. Ten years ago, I decided that it was time to take matters into my own hands, and I created a simple outline for a book.
At the outset, I thought I would be writing a book about diet and exercise. But as time went on, the outline sprouted new branches and took off in many different directions. I learned that so many of the small and simple choices we make each day have a tremendous effect on the health of our hearts, brains, and other vital organs, and may also impact our risk for cancer and other chronic illnesses.
Ultimately, I was able to distill all of this information into seven simple steps that have the power to prevent, halt, and possibly reverse cardiovascular disease. The result is my new book, Best Practices for a Healthy Heart: A Cardiologist’s Seven Point Plan for Preventing and Reversing Heart Disease. Over the next several weeks, I will share some highlights of the book with you in this blog.
None of this work would have been possible without my wonderful patients, who challenge me to learn something new every day. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of their lives, and to have the chance to share what I have learned with you, my readers.
