A friend of mine recently announced that she is pregnant. How very exciting! There seems to be a large amount of people in my life who are pregnant right now. With family, friends, and clients all expecting babies soon, I am in a mad dash to divide up my baby things in a fair way that serves everyone’s needs as best as I can.
As my baby grows bigger and meets new milestones, there are several things he has outgrown and moved past. What a perfect opportunity to recycle my baby items by giving them to other people who can use them. I could always bring them to a consignment shop or Goodwill, but knowing they are going to people I love just feels good.
It’s so important to me to make sure that I reduce the amount of waste being created by finding ways to reuse and recycle my things -- this helps to cut down on items being purchased as well. I think more and more people are realizing the importance of reducing your consumption first and foremost, and then focusing on recycling. Of course a great example of this is using cloth diapers and cloth wipes instead of disposables.
There are many creative ways to reuse things. See these sites for cool ideas:
- Check out this site for reusing cribs. Love it!
- This well-organized site is great for selling and buying gently used children’s clothes.
I know a lot of parents want new baby items, especially since every year there are more gadgets and gear to meet a growing baby's (and family’s) needs. There are so many trendy items that I have to admit are very cool and very beautiful. But if you can even find one way to reduce waste or recycle items, it can make a huge impact on our earth -- and save us some money as well.
