New Help for Preschool Nutrition
MyPyramid, the food guide system designed by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), has a new section just for preschoolers. The MyPyramid plan for preschoolers gives parents a customized eating plan for their preschooler, based on the child's age, gender, and physical activity level. It includes colorful, personalized printouts of the MyPyramid Plan and links to information about each food groups, snacks, beverages, salt, and "extras" like fat and added sugars.
Special topic sections are available for the following topics:
- Setting a good example
- Offering a variety of foods
- Helping children konw when they've had enough
- Following a meal and snack schedule
- Making mealtime a family time
- Coping with picky eating
- Helping children eat new foods
- Kitchen activities preschoolers can help with
- Behavioral milestones related to eating
There is also a lot of information on physical activity and food safety. They have 2 examples of a meal and snack pattern to see how the daily amounts recommended can be divided into 3 meals and 2 snacks. Each pattern includes menu ideas for meals and snacks.
Our children are our future, and their health is vital to their success. Check out MyPyramid for Preschoolers today!
