You’ve probably heard the phrase “Eat your greens” much more
often “Eat your whites,” but I am a firm believer of eating the rainbow and
both food colors are essential for health! Eating different colored foods provides
a variety of nutrients. Even white foods offer health benefits. Now, I’m not
talking about refined foods like white bread, but whole, natural items that
fill you up with nutrients. One of my favorite and most nutritious white foods?
Cauliflower!
Cauliflower comes from the same family as broccoli and cabbage, and provides many essential nutrients including:
- fiber for regularity
- folate for healthy development and growth
- vitamin C for a healthy immune system
- phytonutrients that may aid in disease prevention
Not only is cauliflower filled with nutrients, but it’s also low in fat and calories making it a perfect food for health.
I must admit that cauliflower hasn’t always been my favorite food, but I have found some different cooking techniques that provide delicious flavor. My favorite way to prepare cauliflower is simple and easy: I roast it. To roast, simply preheat the oven to 400 degrees, drizzling the cauliflower with olive oil and a touch of salt, and cook for 25-30 minutes or until browned. Delicious!
Other cooking options include steaming, boiling, sautéing, eating it raw, or adding it to your favorite dishes. My other cauliflower favorites include cauliflower soup and mashed cauliflower! Who says that healthy can’t taste good?
Cauliflower is great for the body and tastes amazing too (when you cook it the right way) Try cooking cauliflower with a twist to bring out the amazing flavors. Enjoy!
