IBD Week Senate Resolution
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) recently introduced a resolution to support the establishment of Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week from December 1st to 7th, 2011.
Senate Resolution 199 states the following goals:
- To invite and encourage all people in the United States to join the effort to find a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
- To engage in activities aimed at raising awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis among the general public and health care providers.
- To promote and support biomedical research needed to find better treatments and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
The resolution further proposes to recognize patients and their caretakers, and to commend health care professionals who work toward advancing IBD-related research. It also encourages the media to participate by helping to educate the public about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Senator Harry Reid has been a long time advocate for the Crohn’s and colitis community. In several previous congressional sessions he introduced a number of IBD-related resolutions, including most recently the IBD Research and Awareness Act of the 111th congress.
Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week stands to offer hope toward a better future for people with inflammatory bowel disease. But it’s not a reality yet… click here to learn more about how you can help.
