IBD Week Senate Resolution

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) recently introduced a resolution to support the establishment of Crohn’s and Colitis Awareness Week from December 1^st to 7^th, 2011.

Senate Resolution 199 states the following goals:

To invite and encourage all people in the United States to join the effort to find a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
To engage in activities aimed at raising awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis among the general public and health care providers.
To promote and support biomedical research needed to find better treatments and a cure for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

The resolution further proposes to recognize patients and their caretakers, and to commend health care professionals who work toward advancing IBD-related research. It also encourages the media to participate by helping to educate the public about Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Senator Harry Reid has been a long time advocate for the Crohn’s and colitis community. In several previous congressional sessions he introduced a number of IBD-related resolutions, including most recently the IBD Research and Awareness Act of the 111^th congress.
