What is this medicine?
TOBRAMYCIN (toe bra MYE sin) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It is used to treat or prevent certain kinds of bacterial infections in the lungs. It will not work for colds, flu, or other viral infections.This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:- balance problems
- hearing problems
- kidney disease
- myasthenia gravis
- Parkinson's disease
- an unusual or allergic reaction to tobramycin, other aminoglycosides or medicines, sulfites, foods, dyes or preservatives
- pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- breast-feeding
How should I use this medicine?
This medicine is for inhalation using a nebulizer. Nebulizers make a liquid into an aerosol that you breathe in through your mouth or your mouth and nose and into your lungs. You will be taught how to use your nebulizer. Follow the directions on your prescription label. Do not use more often than directed.You will get an information sheet with each prescription and refill. Read this sheet carefully each time. This sheet may change.
Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While this drug may be prescribed for children as young as 6 years old for selected conditions, precautions do apply.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Take your doses at least 6 hours apart. Do not take double or extra doses.What may interact with this medicine?
Do not take this medicine with any of the following medications:- cidofovir
- cisplatin
- colistin
- ethacrynic acid
- furosemide
- mannitol
- other aminoglycoside antibiotics
- polymyxin
- urea
- vancomycin
- viomycin
This medicine may also interact with the following medications:

What should I watch for while using this medicine?
Visit your doctor or health care professional as directed. Tell your doctor or healthcare professional if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?
Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:- allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue
- breathing problems
- change in amount or color of urine
- change in hearing
- dizziness
- fever or infection
- loss of balance
- redness, blistering, peeling or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth
- unusual bleeding or bruising
- unusually weak or tired
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your doctor or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
- diarrhea
- changes in voice
- cough
- headache
- nausea, vomiting
- runny nose
