What is this medicine?FLUTAMIDE (FLOO ta mide) blocks the effect of the male hormone called testosterone. It is used in combination with another medication to treat prostate cancer.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
- cigarette smoker
- glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
- hemoglobin M disease
- lactose intolerance
- liver disease
- an unusual or allergic reaction to flutamide, other chemotherapy, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- your partner is pregnant or trying to get pregnant
How should I use this medicine?Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Finish the full course prescribed by your doctor or health care professional, even if the capsules make you feel sick. Do not stop taking except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.
Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
What if I miss a dose?If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.

What should I watch for while using this medicine?Visit your doctor or health care professional for regular checks on your progress. Improvement in your condition can take several days.
This medicine is only for use in men. There is no indication for the use of this medicine in women. This medicine should never be given to pregnant women, as it may cause harm to the developing fetus.
What side effects may I notice from receiving this medicine?Side effects that you should report to your doctor or health care professional as soon as possible:
- dark yellow or brown urine
- yellowing of the eyes or skin

Where should I keep my medicine?Keep out of the reach of children.
Store between 2 and 30 degrees C (36 and 86 degrees F). Protect from moisture. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
