What is this medicine?
BISMUTH SUBSALICYLATE; METRONIDAZOLE; TETRACYCLINE (biz muth sub sa LIS i late; me troe NI da zole; tet ra SYE kleen) is a combination antibiotic. It is used to treat stomach ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infection.This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions.
What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine?
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:- kidney disease
- liver disease
- nerve problems like neuropathy
- recent vaccination with chickenpox vaccine
- recent viral illness, such as the flu or chickenpox
- seizures
- an unusual or allergic reaction to bismuth subsalicylate, metronidazole, tetracycline, aspirin or other salicylates, or other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
- pregnant or trying to get pregnant
- breast-feeding
How should I use this medicine?
Take this medicine by mouth with a full glass of water. Do not take it with milk or other dairy products. Follow the directions on the prescription label. This medicine should be taken after meals and at bedtime. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Take all of your medicine as directed even if you think you are better. Do not skip doses or stop your medicine early.Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. This medicine is not approved for use in children.
Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once.
NOTE: This medicine is only for you. Do not share this medicine with others.
What if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses. If you miss more than 4 doses, contact your doctor or health care professional.What may interact with this medicine?
Do not take this medicine with any of the following medications:- alcohol or any product that contains alcohol
- disulfiram
- medicines for HIV
- methotrexate
- other antibiotics like tetracyclines, sulfamethoxazole; trimethoprim
- sertraline
This medicine may also interact with the following medications:
- antacids with aluminum, calcium, magnesium, sodium bicarbonate
- aspirin and aspirin-like drugs
- birth control pills
- calcium supplements
- cimetidine
- iron supplements
- lithium
- magnesium supplements
- medicines for diabetes
- medicines that treat or prevent blood clots like warfarin
- methoxyflurane
- penicillin
- phenobarbital
- phenytoin
- probenecid
- sulfinpyrazone
- zinc supplements or zinc lozenges
