• Shake salt into your hand before sprinkling it on your food so you see exactly how much you're adding.

• Experiment with sodium-free ways to boost flavors in foods. Acidic flavorings, such as lemon juice and vinegar, impart a sensation similar to salt. Be creative with herbs and sodium-free spices too.

• Give it time. It might take a while for your palate to adjust to the taste of less-salty foods, but eventually you'll probably prefer them.
