Primaquine may be taken with most foods in order to limit GI side effects, like nausea. However, it is recommended that you do not significantly alter your intake of Grapefruit Juice, or avoid it altogether, when taking Primaquine. Grapefruit juice may increase blood levels of Primaquine by reducing Primaquine metabolism in the body. Too much Primaquine in the blood can lead to side effects such as dizziness, vomiting or low blood counts, which could lead to an increased risk of anemia or infection.
