Show details
The interaction between Anti-retroviral Protease Inhibitors (examples: Agenerase, Crixivan, Fortovase, Invirase, Kaletra-TM, Norvir, and Viracept-TM) and Bicalutamide is complex. Substances which are potent inhibitors of the elimination of Bicalutamide may increase Bicalutamide concentrations, and therefore, increase potential for side effects. Side effects or increased toxicity associated with Bicalutamide may be observed. Notify your health care provider if you notice changes in your infection status or other unusual effects.

Food
Show details
Specific food or beverages including dairy products (such as cheese, milk, yogurt, or cottage cheese), coffee, or tea can decrease the absorption of Iron from the stomach. To limit this interaction, take Iron Salts (examples: Femiron, Feratab, Nephro-Fer, Slow FE) at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, Iron Salts may be given with meals. However, where possible, avoid coffee, tea, or dairy products within 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking any Iron product. Taking these food together while taking Iron Salts can decrease the effectiveness to increase the amount of Iron in the body. In addition, Enteral Feedings (liquid nutritional feedings such as Ensure, Isocal, Jevity and others) are not recommended to be given within the 1 hour before and 1 hour after giving Ferrous Sulfate Elixir (example: Feosol Elixir). There does not appear to be an interaction with other liquid Iron products.

Do not take Pimozide and Anti-retroviral protease inhibitors (drugs used to treat HIV infection) together. Taking these drugs together can increase the risk of a dangerous change in heartbeat or heart rhythm; you may experience chest pain, dizziness, fainting or falling spells, palpitations, shortness of breath, or a change in your usual heart beat (fast, slow, or irregular heart beat).
Severe

Grapefruit juice
Show details
Avoid Grapefruit and Grapefruit juice while taking Pimozide. Serious side effects (a dangerous change in heartbeat or heart rhythm) from Pimozide may get worse if you take Grapefruit or Grapefruit juice. Contact your prescriber immediately if you experience chest pain, dizziness, fainting or falling spells, palpitations, shortness of breath, or a change in your usual heart beat (such as a fast or irregular heart beat).

Alcohol
Show details
Avoid alcohol-containing drinks while taking medicines that cause drowsiness like prescription pain medicines, medications to reduce anxiety, medicines to induce sleep or sedation, and medicines used for colds or allergies. Using some of these drugs along with alcohol can lead to serious side effects. You may feel drowsy or more tired when taking these drugs together. Do not drive or operate machinery if you are drinking alcohol-containing beverages. If you notice slurred speech, confusion, severe weakness, or difficulty breathing, contact your health care provider immediately.

Tyramine-containing foods
Show details
Certain foods containing tyramine might increase the risk of side effects with Linezolid. You should probably limit your intake of alcoholic beverages, aged or smoked meats (like sausages or smoked or pickled fish), aged cheeses, and caffeine containing foods like coffee, colas, teas, and chocolate while on Linezolid. Taking these foods along with Linezolid might increase the risk of increased blood pressure, confusion, restlessness, or other side effects. Ask your dietician or health care professional for a complete listing of foods best avoided while on Linezolid.

mannitol
+
corticotropin
Show details
Using these drugs together may lower the level of potassium in your blood. When the potassium in the blood is too low, this can cause muscle cramps, weakness, or an abnormal heart rhythm. Your health care provider may monitor your potassium level. A potassium supplement may be prescribed for patients with a low potassium level. Also, use of Corticotropin, ACTH and Mannitol may increase the amount of sodium in your blood. If you will get both Corticotropin, ACTH and Mannitol, ask your health care professional about the need to check your sodium level.

Use caution in combining Linezolid (Zyvox, an Antibiotic) and Serotonin-Receptor Agonists (sometimes referred to as 'triptans' which are drugs used to treat migraine headaches). Examples of Serotonin-Receptor Agonists include Axert-TM, Amerge, Maxalt, Imitrex, Relpax and Zomig. The use of these drugs together should be avoided when possible. In certain circumstances, the use of Linezolid with these drugs might be medically necessary. However, you should be alert for interactions. Interactions have been reported with similarly acting drugs and Linezolid. Taking these drugs together could result in serious side effects such as chest pain, chest tightness or pressure, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, excessive dry mouth, excessive nausea/vomiting, fever, loss of coordination, muscle twitching or weakness, sweating, tremor, and/or palpitations. Report these and any other troublesome side effects immediately.

Avoid drinking hot beverages or eating hot food around the times you take Niacin. Ingesting hot food or beverages may worsen skin flushing (example: warm and reddened skin of the face, neck or chest) while taking Niacin. Alcoholic beverages may also have this effect, so also avoid drinking alcohol around the time of your Niacin dose. Taking Niacin with meals may help to decrease skin flushing.

Tobacco
Show details
In theory, Tobacco smoking may reduce the effectiveness of this drug in treating your condition; Tobacco smoke contains substances that speed the removal of this drug from the body. Alternatively, if you take this drug and suddenly stop Tobacco smoking, you may feel more drowsy or tired, or may experience confusion, dizziness, difficulty in movement or other side effects. If you will stop smoking, use care in driving or operating machinery until you know how this drug will affect you. Make sure your prescriber is aware that you smoke Tobacco or if you plan to stop smoking. Report any unusual side effects promptly.

Enteral Feedings
Show details
Most iron supplements do not significantly interact with Enteral Feedings. However, Ferrous Sulfate syrups and elixirs, when given at the same time as Enteral feedings (examples: Boost, Ensure, Jevity, Sustical and others) may cause a thickening of the feeding that may increase the likelyhood of a tube clog. Such interactions are not common. However, to avoid this interaction, ferrous sulfate elixirs at least an hour before taking any nutritional supplement beverages down a tube. Alternatively, your health care professional may be able to recommend an iron supplement that would be less likely to interact.
