What is this medicine? BENAZEPRIL; HYDROCHLOROTHIAZIDE (ben AY ze pril; hye droe klor oh THYE a zide) is a combination of an ACE inhibitor and a diuretic. It is used to treat high blood pressure. This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions. What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine? They need to know if you have any of these conditions: bone marrow disease decreased urine heart or blood vessel disease if you are on a special diet like a low salt diet immune system problems, like lupus kidney disease liver disease previous swelling of the tongue, face, or lips with difficulty breathing, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, or tightening of the throat recent heart attack or stroke an unusual or allergic reaction to benazepril, hydrochlorothiazide, sulfa drugs, other medicines, insect venom, foods, dyes, or preservatives pregnant or trying to get pregnant breast- feeding How should I use this medicine? Take this medicine by mouth with a glass of water. Follow the directions on the prescription label. You may take this medicine with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop taking this medicine except on the advice of your doctor or health care professional.
