What is this medicine?GUAIFENESIN (gwye FEN e sin) is an expectorant. It helps to thin mucous and make coughs more productive. This medicine is used to treat coughs caused by colds or the flu. It is not intended to treat chronic cough caused by smoking, asthma, emphysema, or heart failure.This medicine may be used for other purposes; ask your health care provider or pharmacist if you have questions. How should I use this medicine?Take this medicine by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Use a specially marked spoon or container to measure your dose. Household spoons are not accurate. Take your medicine at regular intervals. Do not take it more often than directed.Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed. Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of this medicine contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: This medicine is only for you.
