I just realized that that last post made everything sound pretty glum here in Germany, when in fact, we are having a wonderful time. The weather has been so pleasant that we've eaten every single meal for 10 days outside in my in-laws' garden. That's quite a big WOW for this climate.

The little cousins are loving each others' company, and we walk to the cafe for Gelato nearly every day. I've figured out the dosing for one Kugel (small scoop) of that heavenly stuff, too, so have been indulging fairly regularly. Luckily I can counteract the effects with a 5K jog through the Stadtwald (town forest) most days.

We've already spent countless hours in the town swimming pool, which is a Dutch-designed indoor tropical paradise with an enormous tube-style water slide that my 2-year-old loves as much as the older kids do. Sore rump for mommy, but a fabulous way to spend quality water time with the family!

We're all excited about the upcoming wedding -- my brother-in-law to his long-time girlfriend in a very old Burg (fortress Castle) in the German Eifel area next week. And I am one of two official "witnesses" for this event! I will surely understand more than I did at my own German wedding, when I refused a translator but was so jittery that I hardly understood a word. We plan to stay up most of the night partying. Which means I'll be a grumpy wreck the next day. But very well worth it, I'm sure!

On the diet front, I'm able to find plenty of gluten-free goodies at the local Reformhaus (health food store). Been eating a bit too much cheese, in general, but that's what vacation's for, right?
