A loyal reader emails me to say thanks for creating a site that's "positive and a great experience for the diabetic." And I say THANKS FOR NOTICING, 'cause that's exactly why I started this blog: most every other resource I found was such a downer!
I also get a fair amount of emails from people calling for help. They're usually either newly diagnosed and feeling totally under water, or struggling to help a loved one -- or just struggling with their own attitude and sagging motivation. Luckily, I'm not the only one who's noticed this need. It seems there are more and more programs and resources aimed at BOOSTING YOUR ATTITUDE about diabetes, such as:
* Bee A D.I.V.A. Diabetes Coaching Classes
Glam More FEAR LESS, Exercise CONTROL, Adjust ATTITUDE
Gain CONFIDENCE, Lift SPIRITS, Get MOTIVATED!

'Robotic Pancreas' Appears On American Idol

This is the program established by Luther Vandross' longtime personal assistant Max Szadek. I promised him I'd post the details, and I stand behind this plug because it's just an extremely positive campaign to make taking control of your diabetes more hip and fun -- and not just for women (see the Diva Pooch). They were also recently featured on dLife TV. If you're in or near New York City, definitely worth checking out an upcoming event...

* Behavioral Diabetes Institute (BDI) -- newly established by Dr. William Polonsky (of "Diabetes Burnout" fame). Upcoming group and individual seminars cover topics like "Feeling Good Again" and "Discovering Your Own Motivation for Managing Diabetes."
If you're in or around San Diego, totally worth looking into! See the BDI Web site for session times and prices.
* DESA, or the Diabetes Exercise and Sports Association, established in 2000 with the mission to "enhance the quality of life for people with diabetes through exercise and physical fitness." HQ is in Nashville, but their presence is international, with upcoming events in the SF Bay Area (!) and Arnhem, The Netherlands.
This group is all about education and motivation. They do tend to cater to the "sports-minded," but also aim to help anyone "get started on an exercise program and receive encouragement to 'stick with it' from DESA and its members." Read their Top 10 reasons to become a DESA member here.

Simply knowing that so many people are working so hard to offer encouragement and help is a major attitude booster, I'd say. Our diabetes ain't goin' away any time soon, so we gotta keep at it. Grab your motivation wherever you can get it!
