We are winding down 2013.  Amazing how fast time flies when you're having fun!

Our community is calling it a wrap on this year's big Diabetes Awareness Month that, of course, brought us another World Diabetes Day and a ton of advocacy and awareness efforts -- and of course another batch of great posts from across the Diabetes Online Community (DOC). Today we're happy to feature some of the writing that's caught our eye during the month of November.

Here's what was on our radar this month, in no particular order...

Hey, a little diabetes poetry for D-Awareness Month goes a long way... this one from D-Dad Tim Brand has you from the first line.

Yes, this year's DiabetesMine Innovation Summit is now complete. And even as we and others continue processing all that went on there, this post from Karmel Allison at A Sweet Life takes an honest look at important diabetes topics, like why the heck should anyone pay attention to type 1?

We lost a true advocate and valuable patient voice in the D-Community recently, and D-blogger Scott Strumello shares how he feels about the passing of Mary Hunt.

Perkins

Remember actress Elizabeth Perkins, who not only starred in hit TV shows and movies like the loveable film Big, but also is a fellow type 1 who we interviewed late last year about her involvement in a new diabetes documentary? Well, would you believe that this starlet has started her own diabetes blog, called Sweet Talking: True Tales of a Type 1 Diabetic. And most recently, she wrote a great post about how she's learned to talk about her own diabetes and spread awareness about type 1.

Our former assistant editor Allison Nimlos is going to school, and back blogging on her own at the Blood Sugar Whisperer. She penned an an intriguing post relaying her feelings and follow-up on the famous quote by Dr. Bill Polonsky, regarding how well-managed diabetes is the leading cause of nothing... read on, you might be surprised by what you find!

Bravo to D-Dad Tom Karlya, who's doing important work in trying to get doctor's offices to check for type 1 diabetes at the very start. See what he's been up to, and what he still needs...

D-peep Briley Boisvert at InDpendence has a passionate message she wants you to hear about diabetes. You want to know why? As Briley puts it: Because.

D-Dad and fellow type 2 PWD Bennet Dunlap pointed out this brilliant video made by another D-peep, and how she captured diabetes humor in the tricky Halloween season. It's a definite must-watch (OK, from late October, but totally worth checking out!)

Many of us D-bloggers get a mass of marketing pitches, especially during Diabetes Awareness Month. Our friend Kelly Kunik (aka K2 over at Diabetesaliciousness) took issue with one of those pitches, and we happen to agree with her 100%. Words matter, People!DOC Slide

Our friend George Simmons over at the Ninjabetic has been sharing a story each day this month about someone he knows in the DOC, and it's been great to not only see him blogging more but also "meeting" some new D-faces and learning more about good friends we already have in this community.

What do you expect from the DOC? Well, as fellow type 1 PWD Kim Vlasnik says, your expectations may vary...

Thanks to all! Naturally, we can't wait to see what the DOC has in store for the final month of 2013, so please let us know if any particular D-blogs catch your eye for December.  And let us know if there are any "Greatest D-Posts of 2013" you'd like to nominate for a year-end roundup!
