Interested in participating in the 2017 DiabetesMine Innovation Summit at Stanford School of Medicine this Fall on full scholarship*?
We are in search of: passionate patients willing to lend their experiences and insights to our influential annual Summit.
With all that's going on in the current healthcare environment, we're asking applicants to take an "act locally" approach, i.e. to share some fresh ideas for initiatives or activities YOU could do in your town or region to help yourself & others live better with diabetes.
You have one month to apply! Details below…
About the Contest & Summit
We're proud to announce our 2017 Patient Voices Contest — an annual scholarship program in which we seek a group of activated patients who wish to attend and participate in our DiabetesMine Innovation Summit held annually in the Fall in Northern California.
This year, the event will again take place on Friday, Nov. 17, at Stanford School of Medicine's state-of-the-art Li Ka Shing Learning & Knowledge Center.
Our winners attend the Summit each year to act as "delegates" for the patient community, expressing our needs and desires to the Powers That Be: pharma industry and regulatory leaders, health insurance execs, clinicians, entrepreneurs, health tech experts, the country's largest clinics and national advocacy organizations and more.
Our contest winners are awarded *funding to cover airfare, two nights in a hotel, and a meal budget for attending the Innovation Summit.
Bypassing the System...
American healthcare is a convoluted mess, no doubt. So we at DiabetesMine are choosing to focus instead on a constructive angle: what contributions to innovation can we patients make without relying on the system?
Of course there the #WeAreNotWaiting movement for DIY technology tools, but what about mentoring, low-carb support, self-advocacy help and more?
We're asking our Contest applicants to get creative here... can you name 1-3 ideas for innovative programs/ tools/ campaigns/ what-have-you that YOU could imagine implementing in your own backyard to help people with diabetes live better, less complicated and more fulfilling lives?
No pressure... we're most interested in hearing how you express yourself, and won't necessarily make winner choices based solely on the proposed solutions. Just show us your passion, please!
To be clear, we're asking this year's applicants for three things:
1) A brief written explanation of why they want to attend the Summit
2) Name one to three ideas of things patients could do or develop locally to help themselves
3) Please submit any video, images or other visual materials that may illustrate your ideas
