About the Contest & Summit
We're proud to announce our 2016 Patient Voices Contest — an annual scholarship program in which we seek a group of activated patients who wish to attend and participate in our DiabetesMine Innovation Summit held annually in the Fall in Northern California.
This year, the event will take place on Friday, Oct. 28, at the beautiful Mission Bay Conference Center at UCSF – a state-of-the-art facility centered in UC San Francisco's new 43-acre life sciences campus for teaching and research.
Our winners attend the Summit each year to act as "delegates" for the patient community, expressing our needs and desires to the Powers That Be: pharma industry and regulatory leaders, health insurance execs, clinicians, entrepreneurs, health tech experts, the country's largest clinics and national advocacy organizations and more.
Our contest winners are awarded *funding to cover airfare, two nights in a hotel, and a meal budget for attending the Innovation Summit.
Share Your Best Mentor Tips!
At last year's Summit, we focused on the "big six" categories of challenges in life with diabetes:
Give us one or more examples of your foils with these challenges and explain how you cope.
These are of course just "buckets" to help guide your thinking.. we're open to any challenges and solutions you may want to share.
So, to be clear, we're asking this year's applicants to:
1) Write a brief explanation of why they want to attend the Summit
2) Name one or more of your own biggest challenges in life with diabetes and tell us how you deal with it. What could you offer to a fellow PWD (person with diabetes) as a mentor on this challenge?
3) Please submit any video, images or other visual materials that may illustrate your mentoring tips.
The big idea is that we PWDs learn a lot over time, so let's "pay it forward" to help others in our community!
(The challenges we all describe will also be incredibly informative for doctors and industry folk doing their best to understand the realities of our lives with diabetes.)
