What Causes Lactose Intolerance?

Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest significant amounts of lactose, a type of sugar present in milk and other dairy products. It is caused by the body's decreased production of the enzyme lactase.

Treating Your Lactose Intolerance

Removing milk and other dairy products from the diet typically improves the symptoms of Lactose Intolerance. Choosing lactose-free milk products may also be helpful. Lactase enzymes can also be added to milk or taken orally in capsule or tablet form.
