Sr. Java Software Engineer

Reports to Manager, Informatics Engineering

Opportunity

Work with dynamic Engineering and Medical Informatics Teams to enhance Healthline's medical ontology. Healthline is a web 2.0/3.0 health technology company, employing tools for the future. Our office is located in San Francisco at Third and Townsend near the ballpark and one block from Cal Train. This position is open immediately.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement algorithms for integrating medical standard dictionaries into Healthline ontology.
• Develop data mining processes to create our Semantic Network.
• Work on an authoring tool that allows Medical Informatics Specialists to successfully and easily edit our ontology.
• Contribute to architecture, tools, and standards and practices for the engineering organization
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skills & Abilities

• 5 years of software developing experience, recent grad ok
• Proven expertise in the following technologies:
• Java
• J2EE, including servlets, Java Server Pages (JSP), and JSTL
• Web application frameworks such as Struts
• Relational databases, preferably Oracle, SQL and JDBC
• XML and Java XML APIs, RDF
• Object-oriented software design
• Solid knowledge and understanding of ontologies, taxonomies, semantic network , OWL standards and ontology editors, a plus
• Experience with data mining processes, a plus
• Experience in search algorithms a plus
• Health care industry experience a plus

Education Requirements

• Bachelors's degree in computer science or related field (math, physics)
• Minimum 5 years related experience
