Cushing's syndrome is a disease caused by increased production of cortisol, or by excessive use of cortisol or other steroid hormones.

Cushing ' s syndrome is a relatively rare endocrine (hormonal) disorder resulting from excessive exposure to the hormone cortisol. Cushing syndrome was first described by an American neurosurgeon in the early twentieth century named Harvey Cushing. Cushing recognized a specific set of symptoms that collectively he identified as part of a syndrome.
