Homelessness and Families

Kidsdata.org reports that between 2004 and 2008 the number of homeless students enrolling in public schools in California rose by more than 82,000 (26% between 2007 and 2008 alone).
Homelessness is defined by living in homeless facilities or in places not meant for human habitation, and students are designated homeless in CA if their primary nighttime residence is a shelter, hotel, motel, or shelter. The rates are underestimated because they do not count children too young for school, those who have dropped out of school, and those that are unsheltered, and therefore difficult to count.
The economy is making this situation worse and social service providers to the homeless need our help. If you are able, please consider helping your local
