Facebooking As a Family

Nancy L. Brown, PhD
OK, my kids and I are all officially on Facebook and at least they have their privacy settings set tight, and I have to say, it has been very interesting!

Here is what surprised me:
  1. I am not the oldest Facebook user on the earth (although completely annoyed with the entire "looking for a relationship, friend, lover " ... aspect of it)
  2. People instantly found me, even without a complete profile (Sorry, but I got bored answering the questions)
  3. My kids suggested that their friends "friend" me - so we have multi generational communication happening
  4. Neither kid objected to me knowing their passwords
  5. I actually like get updates, pictures, pokes, and emails (although there is no way in heck I will ever respond to all of them
  6. I need to learn how to throw pillows and snowballs (although I admit I am wondering what the point of these activities are)
  7. No creepy pervert types have appeared (this is good!)
I am on the waiting list for a Facebook for parents class taught at Stanford, so for now, I will just observe and enjoy the adventure - it is like traveling to another country, I have to say!

If you are resisting - I say try it, you just might like it!
