Gratitude and Holidays!

We are all so blessed with so many gifts and so many moments to experience them, that this time of year really should be filled with joy! I realize driving around or shopping during the last weekend before Christmas may be sucking your holiday cheer dry, but remember - it only takes a minute to remember your blessings!

Regardless of how many gifts we are, or are not able to give, or how many people we intend to help this holiday season, it is time to be grateful for what we have!

You might want to remind your teens that "assuming that we are entitled to anything in life robs us of our awe at the opportunity to be grateful," and encourage everyone in your family to start each day during the holidays with the thought - "what am I truly grateful for in my life?"

Everyone should aim for a minimum of five answers, and if you cannot list five things immediately, ask yourself questions such as:

  • What relationships do I have that others don’t?
  • What do I take for granted? (small hint - MOM!)
  • What freedoms, unique abilities, and options do I have that others don’t?
  • What advantages have I been given in life?
  • Which allies and supporters have helped me to get to where I am?
With just a little thought I bet everyone can think of something that reminds them they are blessed! I know I am - thanks for sharing and happy holidays!
