MRSA

The Staphyloccus aureus bacteria has long been a cause of skin and soft tissue infections in humans. Recently, however, the bacteria has become more of a problem because it has become resistant to the antibiotic methicillin. Thus, we now have methicillin-resistant S. aureus, commonly known by its abbreviation, “MRSA.” Initially, MRSA was found in hospitals, where patients exposed to S. aureus (“staph”) germs developed infections with bacteria that had become resistant to antibiotics, presumably due to the co-existence of bacteria and antibiotics found in health care facilities.
The situation has taken a turn for the worse, because doctors are now seeing MRSA infections that are acquired outside of the hospital. These are known as “community acquired” infections. I have been made aware of a few infections that seem to have been acquired in the outdoors. In one case, it was almost certainly acquired from a wet suit worn by a surfer.
These infections do not respond to the antibiotics we used to use for “routine” (non-MRSA) infections. Instead, they must be treated with antibiotics such as trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, tetracycline, or vancomycin. In the future, they may become resistant to these antibiotics and we will have to hope that other drugs prove effective.
The appearance of a MRSA infection may resemble that of a spider bite, in that there may be evidence of tissue destruction. The best prevention is good hygiene, including washing skin on a regular basis, using clean clothing and linens, and washing all cuts and scrapes thoroughly with soap and disinfected water. Using an antiseptic ointment, such as bacitracin, on open wounds may not prevent a MRSA infection, but will certainly help prevent other Staphylococcus infections and Streptococcus (“strep”) skin infections.

It wasn't that long ago that we worried about MRSA in nursing home admits only - cultured and isolated them until proven negative.
Now, it's the wound-on-the-street, so to speak! Healthy, normal patients coming into the ER for wounds that just don't see to be "right".
Scary!

I WAS just discharged from the hospital. I had a lump under my arm that was red and hurt. My internist immediately sent me to a surgeon who removed a 7 in round abcess that was MRSR. I have diabetes and I was unconcscious 20 hours aftr the operation. To make it worse, I am allergic to sulfa. I spent 5 days in the hospital on IV antibiotics , 2 days on morphine. My fear is that it can be cleared up. and what precautions I have to take. I have no idea how I acquired MSRS.

I WAS JUST DISCHARGED from the hospital after having emergency surgery removing an abcess that was MRSA. This is the second time with this problem. Unfortunately I am allergic to sulfa drugs so it has been difficult to treat. My biggest concern was where/how I got it and what to do not to get it again. I follow all the precautions and still get it!!

I laughed when you mentioned the spider bite appearance- it's quite true. As a matter of fact, when I hear spider bite, I think MRSA first and spider bite second.
As for the comments about recurring MRSA, ask your doctor how you can attempt to de-colonize yourself from this strain of a common bacteria. This might include using an antibacterial soap daily (such as Dial) and applying an antibiotic cream to your nostrils daily. Of course, if there's a consistent source in your life (such as a family member who works in a health care facility), all bets are off until the source can be controlled. Your doctor can get into the specifics of your situation and offer a strategy to reduce your infections.

My husband had 2 MRSA skin infections, hospitalized with the second one and 7 months later died less than 24 hrs. after being hospitalized with pnemonia. It took me 6 months, lots of research, and help from a reporter, to find out that the MRSA had gone to his lungs. He was 49 yrs old.
I have had 5 skin infections the last one cultured and heavy growth of MRSA was found, even knowing about my husband the Dr. ordered siverdine cream.
Please explain to your readers that once you have MRSA you have to believe you always have it, therefore their knowledge of MRSA will help them and those around them. Learn ALL you can, most hospitals and doctors don't even know enough. This bacteria really has no set guidelines, you can do everything wrong and live or you can do everything right and possibly die. But knowing anything and everything about MRSA is our only hope. Know what to ask the doctors, know what to watch for, know who around you maybe at risk, knowledge, knowledge, knowledge!!! It's our best chance.
Thankyou,
Tammy

My son-in-law (35yo) was just admitted to one of our local hospitals, diagnosed with MRSA. The infection spread rapidly and despite IV antibiotics, continues to spread.
The doctors are now concerned about the infection affecting the bones in his right (affected) leg. At the time of this writing, within 24 hours and despite aggressive IV antibotic treatment, the infection has spread on the right side of his body.
This evening, we were informed that if they find evidence of the infection in his bones, his right leg will require amputation.
Despite my recommendation to my SIL to go the ER immediately, he chose to wait--a grave mistake on his part.
He and my daughter have 3 children ages 12, 6 & 3.
Incidentally, he also has evidence of MRSA under his right arm and now beginning on his left leg.
He will be hospitalized for several days, and that is withOUT surgery.
Do take this disease seriously.

I got a raspberry-type wound on my knee while swimming on a Costa Rican beach. When I returned to the US, I had 3 "bites" on my leg which became very painful. I went to my doctor and they said the spider bites would heal in time and to come back if they didn't.
Three months later, another "bite" appeared and I knew something must be wrong. When I went to the doctor, they told me to apply warm compresses - still no one thought of MRSA.
Luckily, I was in physical therapy after an ACL surgery on my knee and an oberserving doctor told me I needed to demand they take a culture and that I probably had MRSA. Well, I do, and because it took so long to diagnose (a site online says you can catch it better under 60 days), I may not ever be rid of it.
I just finished my Clindamyicin and am wondering where to go from here, waiting for the next "bite" to arrive, or worse, giving this infection to someone who can't fight it.
One thing I find interesting about the people posting on this site is our shared allergies to sulfa - a clue?

My husband and I fought this nasty and painful "spider bite" welts all last winter. After several rounds of various oral antibiotics a nurse practioner took one look at us and prescribed the antibiotic cream to use in our nostrils. This is the ONLY treatment that worked and broke us of the cycle. Never did any doctor mention MRSA. Take my advice and do your research online and right away do both oral antibiotics and the nostril cream - you most likely will have to tell your doctor about this.

My husband and I have been fighting MRSA for over 2 years now. My absesses always appear as an infected hair folicle on my inner thigh. Each time has required immediate incision and drainage. I've ended up in ICU because of sepis and pulmonary edema secondary to the infection. I've just come home from my last hospitalization due to this. I now have a PICC line and will be recieving daily IV antibiotics (Cubison)for the next 6 weeks. I've already been on this antibiotic for a week and have just found a new infection under my arm. I'm really beginning to wonder if there is anything that can fight this. Even after I complete this regimen of antibiotics, will that keep it from re-occurring? Who knows. I do know that it has changed my life drastically. I used to be a very "touchy, feely, always hugging everyone" type person and now I'm afraid to even shake hands with someone. I don't want to expose them to MRSA even though I have been through the decolonization process twice.
I'm sure that I acquired this in the hospital since I'm a healthcare worker. It looks as though I may have to find another career outside of healthcare just so I'm not exposed to this horrible infection. I'm not sure if I can tolerate another round of this.
We all need to let everyone around us know how dangerous MRSA is and make sure those around us are performing proper handwashing and hygeine.

I was in Florida last week on vacation when I noticed what looked like pimples on my hand and back. The next day theylooked like boils and were very sore to touch. I went to a ER in Florida and the M.D. there told me I had "Chicken Pox" I ask if I should follow up with my DR. when I returned home and was told "no its Viral just let it run its course" By the tim I returned home my right hand was swollen and very painful so I went to my Dr. who said I had Mrsa, I was admitted to the hospital for 3 days and given I.V. My Dr. said if I had waited 7-10 longer there was a good chance I could have lost my right hand. As of this writing I am still on Daily I.V. and most likely will be for 2-3 weeks. If you have a painful pimple or boil dont do as I did and accept what a Dr. says please go get a 2nd opinon, not all Doctors are well versed.

My family has had 7 cases in the last year. Our Dr. knew the infection on site, as there has been a rise in cases here in Hawaii. He immediately did his best to drain the infection and sent it away for culturing. It was resistant to 14 antibiotics. He prescribed "Septra" (?), but it kept coming back. Through our own process of elimination we have found what we think is the cause -- fleas. We have an indoor pet and live in a damp climate with wild vermine in population. We would like to know if any others have pets or similar environments.

Shortly after a cut that required stitches, an infection began in the finger next to it. It was drained and I took a round of antibiotics but soon my nail started to come off. My doctor was not alarmed. A couple of weeks later I went in with a lump the size of a golf ball on my left tricep and one on my right buttock. I went to my doctor and he sent me to a dermatologist who injected them with steriods to reduce the inflamation saying that they were cysts. A week later they came back with a vengence in my left armpit (7 of them). Finally, I went to a different doctor who was alarmed with the notes in my file and immediately sent me to a surgeon to exerbate the cyst and culture it. Unfortunately, it was MRSA. Everything I read says that it is best if you catch it early and I had it for the better part of 4 months. I am on my second day of treatment and I am following the letter of the law with the antibiotics and the handwashing. Do you think I have a chance to get rid of it or will I assume that I have it for life?

In March I developed two pimple like bumps on my face and over time I thought they were acne because they looked like all the other pimples ive had,in time they opened up and became these huge skin eating boils. After I had had them for a week or so I developed a huge abcess on my neck.I took myself to the E.R. on March 5th 2006 and the doctors took a culture and said it was MRSA.They admitted me and took me into surgery and I spent a better part of three days and my birthday on the 6th in the hospital.Since then it has come back three times, once on my face and twice near my genital area.I now have a nice scar at the base of my penis because of MRSA.I have been treated with Clyndamycin and it is affective if taken immiediatly upon notice of infection, and also works on relieving it once it passes the first stages. Now I have found out that my mother has it who is now in the hospital,Everyone please beware of MRSA and look for the signs, make shur you take all precautions to minimize cross contamination.Im afraid Ive already givin it to everyone I know.

I too have MRSA. It started as a sore spot that my husband and I thought was an infected hair folicle. By the next day it was getting sore and each day progressed worse. The third day I was chilled to the bone and could not get warm and the next morning (Sat 12/2) I had a 101 degree temperature. The area around the sore was hard and hot. Total area affected was a 6 x 3 inch area on the back just below my waistline about 3 inches. I went to the walk-in clinic and they tried to drain. They cultured and packed. By Monday they had the diagnosis back of MRSA and the results that mine was resistant to many of the drugs they might give and I am allergic to Sulfa drugs. They did find a new drug which is very expensive that they put me on. Zyvox cost $1080 for 14 pills (2 a day) and I was on it for 2 weeks...I am lucky in that we have a doctor who is very knowledgeable in the MRSA bacteria at the clinic that I went to and he was the one that suggested using Zyvox. I ended up having to have another abscess opened and packed. I am told I had one of the worst infections they have seen at our clinic and that there have been 7 deaths in our county from this. It is definitely not something to mess with and I will be watching any little red spot from this point on to make sure that arises.

It has been just about 3 years for me. The 1st doctor told me the open sore on my chin was just from the infection that was going through my body. The 2nd doctor told me it was just from an ingrown hair and I should consider hair removal. The 3rd doctor told me it was impentaco? This last infection came from sliding across my wood deck and getting a splinter in my tail end. I couldn't sit down so I was forced to go to a Doctors Urgent Care. They drained it and cultured it. MRSA! I have no earthly idea what MRSA is or how much damaged it has caused since the 1st surface of its existence. I can take sulfa but the infection has remained. It surfaces every 30 to 60 days. I hope my family is safe. I am a hugger and a touchy affectionate person but I am certainly scared. I have an appointment with a dermatologist? But it is affecting my glands, I can no longer wear acrylic nails or tan, bikini shave,my hearing is super sensitive and I feel like dog dirt most of the time. Where do we go from here?

I was diagnosed Nov 2005 with MSRA infecion after a abdominal surgery. All was fine, until when hurricane Wilma blew into FL, I went to Orlando and was being treated by a different nursing service for wound care with a wound vac. After this period I developed MSRA. went on APIC line antibiotuc treatment for three weeks and was doing better.
My problem is since Feb of this year I have had one ear inectionm sinus infection and bronchitis after another. I never seem to get better. I have brought up (today in fact) to my physician if this culd all be linked to the MSRA infection. Has anyone else had this problem? I am so sick of being sick.

I was diagonsed with MRSA in the past year. I've had it going on 8 yrs now. If you just recently got it, do EVERYTHING you can to treat it and get rid of it! It will leave scars if you don't. Another thing DO NOT try to DRAIN IT. Just leave it alone, it will go away. I've had recurrent infections in the same spot. I have a 3yr old son that has had it since he was a year. Now I have a 3 mth old daughter, and I'm very afraid she going to get it. I would not wish this diease on anyone!! It can diminsh your sex life drastically. Just be aware not to share your deodarant, toothbrush, or share a bath with anyone. I could of gotten it two places, my ex-boyfriend or the sauna room. Remember that bacteria love warm moist places.

I have been on Vancomycin for 3 weeks and have 3 more to go with my bout of MERSA. I had back surgery on November 20 and was healing just fine and got sick early in December. My husband took a picture of my healing incision and it was like two rivers of seaping pus. I had to return to the hospital and have the infection removed and have never felt so sick in my life at 49. I am also allergic to sulfa drugs which seems interesting. So now I have to sleep in a hospital bed, have a PICC line, and have to build up the strength that has been sucked out of me.
I remember having an infection as a young girl of an unknown origin on my little toe. It started out just aching for no apparent reason and then soaking it and applying Ben-Gay thinking maybe the toe was sprained since there wasnt any obvious injury to it seemed to make it swell. Eventually, my toe and then my foot discolored and swelled and I was sick for two months in the summer. The local doctor spliced and squeezed that toe two different times and put me on two different antibiotics. It did eventually heal but I wonder if it was similiar or maybe I am just prone to infections.

Are negative cultures truely negative or are the numbers to low to count? Why does it keep coming back time after time?

In response to the last post about the doctor not telling you about the infection, I think many doctors have not had to deal with an MRSA case and maybe don't realize how serious it is. But being in a nursing home, they should be knowledgeable about it and probably do not want to spread fear around the place about it.
My husband had one on his rectum, and the doctor said it might be from sitting in an uncomfortable chair for long periods of time. Has anyone heard of this ? It sounds like a lame excuse to me. He also had three cases of strep throat within three months before this happened.

At the present time I have 5 lumps on my body. Three under one arm, 1 under the other and one at the base of my neck. This is the second time I have had these. The last time I had an abcess between my breasts. On Monday my dr. lanced two of the lumps under my arm, drained them and packed them. She sent the drainage for a culture. I am sure after reading about MRSA that that is what the results are going to be. My son gets these frequently. He squeezes them until he gets discharge out of them. I use warm compresses but they won't break. My daughter in law told me about MRSA and after reading the comments I am sure that is what the findings will be.

I appreciate the fact that many comments have been left by readers regarding an encounter with MRSA by themselves, or by family and friends. In some cases, you are asking questions or seeking advice about specific medical situations. Because I am not an infectious disease expert, and because it is nearly impossible to practice medicine without a proper full history and appropriate physical examination, I urge anyone with a personal medical problem to seek prompt evaluation by a trained medical professional.

None of which were right until the biopsy came back... MRSA. I never had an open sore, so it was quite shocking for eveyone involved. Because it took so long for correct diagnosis(12/06) I had bone infection and heart infection. I too am allergic to sulfa and all nsaids. They tried i.v. vanco but...you guessed it, allergic. I was diagnosed with MRSA in January of this year. I would get one lump which would swell, be red and warm. Each time the Dr. would drain it give me an antibiotic and tell me to come back in a week. On the second visit I'd get "call me if you get another". All of my outbreakes were located within about 12 inches of the original infection. After Bactrum, Zyvox and vancomycin (?) I still continued to have out breakes. This last one progressed to 7 lumps in different areas of my body. I reasearch on line and made an appointment with an Infectious Disease Specialist myself. Just started a 21 day run of Zyvox (which the specialist knows I have already taken) and at least I can say that I don't have any new lumps.
My advice to everyone is find a board certified infectious disease specialist and do it now, don't wait. The longer you wait the worse it gets.

The day after, my eye was swollen shut . I went back to the physician and was given an IV,another antibiotic, and once again, sent home. The day after,my eye was the size of a tennis ball and completely swollen shut. I admitted myself to the E.R. where I found out that I had MRSA.I was placed on and I.V. for four days straight with Vancomycin,Unecin, and Ampicillin. i've delt with this for five years, use caution, wash, wash, wash, hands when in bathrooms . don't mess with pimples. use bactriban on them and cover. use in nose regularly.and watch anything that looks like its going south. get to a doctor quick. tell them of your history always. and when ever you do a routine vist to a dr. of any kind tell them and educate them some just do not know. its to your protection as well as theirs that they wear gloves and gowns. i have found if i leave that infected hair folical or pimple alone and don't pop it cover with ointment bactriban it will usually clear up. i go monthes without problems and then something appears.i've had a sleep study done and contracted it from preused equipment. if its not new sterile wrapped insist on it that is a physcians job! doctors and hospital are now starting to use throw away blood presure cuffs etc. to curb this problem and that may help too. as i said before. wash, use precausion when in public rest rooms etc. use the 15 second soap/ hot water wash of hands min. it will help you, and everone else too. also don't share wash clothes and towels. wash in bleach and warm water, stay clean, watch warm, humid weather.wear body powder to avoid chaffed skin good luck to all of us always.

My boyfriend was taken to the ER Monday night after thinking he had a spider bite on his knee, which turned out to be MRSA. It is above a tattoo he recieved from a friend (not licensed). I heard the Dr. ask him if he "shoots up". My boyfriend responded "no."
He used to be a heavy heroin user, but claims to be clean now. Can MRSA come from sharing needles used for intravenous drug use?
How contagious is this bacteria?

It looks like MRSA infections are on the minds of many of this blog's readers. Because I am not an infectious disease expert per se, I think that the best thing I can do is to refer you to some excellent resources for information. For instance, here's one sponsored by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC): http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dhqp/ar_mrsa_ca_public.html
Here’s a blog dedicated to MRSA: http://www.mrsanotes.com/ - in which there is also a forum for persons to post questions: http://www.forum.mrsaresources.com/
Here’s an article we have on the Healthline site: http://www.healthline.com/adamcontent/mrsa-infection
Here’s a helpful .pdf document on MRSA from the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department in Washington State: http://www.tpchd.org/files/library/2357adf2a147d1aa.pdf
Here’s something from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health web site: http://www.mass.gov/dph/cdc/antibiotic/mrsa_about.htm
Finally, you can look up MRSA in the news on Healthline’s search engine to keep up with the latest information: http://www.healthline.com/newsquery.jsp?q1=MRSA

My mother also has been diagnosed with MRSA and now after reading these comments, I think that she has had it for a while, because I remember her having what the doctors called 'cysts' on her buttocks a couple years ago and they just kept putting her on antibiotics and they would come back...the doctors are telling her not to worry but it'll always be on her charts...so I'm looking up all the info I can so that she can be informed.

I went to the ER because I had very painful bumps on my legs and abdomen. I was told that I could have been bitten by something, or had an ingrown hair . I was also told that they were seeing a lot of people with these bumps, and that I should start using an antibacterial soap. I did this but a while later I got them again, went back to the ER and was given a prescription for clyndamycin. Iwas told that I had a bacterial infection. I didn't hear about MRSA until I took my daughter to the clinic because she had these bumps in her head, the doctor did a fungal swab, that came back negative, I took her back, her doctor did a bacterial swab, and prescribed an antibiotic, then a few days later, the doctor called to say she was going to fax a new prescription to the pharmacy, because the antibiotic she was given originally didn't cover the bacteria that had grown. The doctor told me it was MRSA, there wasn't much she told me about it, and now I'm wondering if that's what I had. I've been looking on the computer for information, because I would like to know what this is, what causes it.

We continue to spread awareness regarding this epidemic that nearly took the life of our oldest son, Kent, Jr.
Antibiotics failed to kill this infection for our son.
MRSA went after the rest of our family and the infection quickly got out of control.
It didn't make sense to me to throw antibiotics at an antibiotic resistant infection or super-bacteria.
In this process, I researched natural and effective ways to kill super-bacteria.
Through much prayer and research we were able to kill this super-bug ourselves without the further need of medical care.
Through the decisions we made, we were able to avoid harming the body with potent antibiotics that failing to kill this infection for many.
We are now helping several others who have acquired MRSA, and all are improving.
I want to urge everyone to use a maintenance amount of the nutraceutical that pulled our family through a life threatening situation.
This may avoid an encounter with this epidemic and/or minimize the effect of it.
Please consider this a serious health threat and educate yourselves. Information is available on my site: http://www.optimalhealthusa.com/
Go to "super-bacteria" and then "MRSA news broadcast" for more information
We want to help others to educate themselves and be prepared to deal with the MRSA epidemic and save lives.

Drug resistant bacteria are a common threat these days. Unfortunately. If today a drug fails and tomorrow another one will than there will be some simple bacteria that could have the potential to kill us. Simple as in simple to treat today. But who knows tomorrow as the article states. And that should be alarming news for the authorities. At least an effort to start produce new cheap medications should be made.

I have had MRSA more times than I can count. I first got it when I was around 26, and I noticed I would get these boil like bumps around the time I would have my period. but then after I had my hysterectomy I still kept getting these bumps, I had one come up last year on my breast, I was in the hospital 3 days. well I still have this same bump and it never seems to go away. I have taken so many antibiotics, and now I have another on my inner thigh, I am so concerned. AND VERY SCARED! I use anti-bacterial everything and shower frequently but still no help. something has to be done to fight this. I dont believe any of the antibiotics will make this go away for good. And with what ive been reading about people dying from this im afraid for my own life. SUPER GERMS!

I just recently got a small rash on my forearm. I haven't particpated in any of the risky behaviors that might indicate exposure to MRSA. I would normally ignore this, but am concerned with the large number of cases that are being reported now.
I am looking for information on the early stages of MRSA. I do not have a pimple or a sore, in fact it itches a little. There is no open wound, and the skin is dry and even peeling like a sunburn just a little, little bit. I don't want to overstate that. But it is more like a dry itchy rash.
My concern is not to ignore it and let it get bad or spread it. So any links to early detection would be helpful.
Thanks,

i have like a hard bump on the bottom of my penis. It's not outside the skin, it's inside and whenever i touch it, it feels painful. I looked it up on wikipedia and i think i might just have Lymphangiosclerosis or w/e it's called. But now that im hearing about MRSA looking like a bite or a welt...im getting kinda worried. It's not red or anything but when you run your finger across it you can feel it and it causes pain when grabbed. Anyone think this could be MRSA?

Several people in my family have MRSA. My mom passed on 7/4 due to MRSA that was misdiagnosed for months. My sister has feeding tube and colostomy bag and stays on MRSA meds. My nephew had to have surgery to 'manually pull' the infection out of his lungs, he was unconscious and on respirator for 2 weeks. He has been back in hospital twice since then (original diagnosis was 'spider bite'). I got a boil/MRSA under my left arm (pit) after visiting my Mom and sister in April - I now have a terrible cough and pain in left lung side (going to dr. today). My 2 yr. old granddaughter got MRSA (3 large boils) after me (I bathed with her prior to my knowing I had MRSA).. she got it 2 months later. This is a very scary medical issue and I am confused as to why the doctors don't know more about MRSA.

OMG why isn't more Dr's informed about this. I took my son, daughter, grandson, and oldest daughter to the Dr in October. We all had the same thing. Little red bumps that itched liked crazy. First we were told it was impetigo, and given antibiotics. When that didn't work, we went back to the dr and was told this time it was a staph infection, was given antibiotics again and some cream to rub on it. Well its three moths later and we still have this. Finally, I took my kids to a different dr, I was taking them to their pediatrician, I decided to take them to a local physician and he diagnosed it as a staph infection and took a culture of one of the sores on my sons arm. We haven't heard anything back yet. I started getting really concerned and looked on the internet to see if I could find any information or pictures on this. Finally I found a picture of exactly what we have and its MRSA. The government need to get this out and let the public know more about this. From what I have read, it can become life threatening. Now I am scared to death. My three children and grandson have this. Please if you get a little red bump that itches like crazy, go and tell the dr you want a culture of it to make sure its not MRSA.. BE SAFE this has now been going on with my family for 3 months. If it hadn't been for me looking this up on the internet, I still would be in the dark about what this infection is exactly. Or just how DANGEROUS it can become if not treated properly.

I was diagnosed with MRSA after a week of home treatments. I initially thought it was a spider bite, but in two days my buttcheek was terribly swollen and tender and had to limb around like an old lady. The 'bite mark' had a ring around it and looked like a ringworm was developing. But in the center of the 'bite mark' was a whitehead. I go to pop the whitehead and out shots this phlegm looking pus and left a hole the size of a dime. This is going to get a little graphic,BUT after 2 more days of drainage, I decided to clean inside the hole with a little peroxide AND ENDED UP WITH HALF THE QTIP IN THE WOUND. The developed boil was huge and 2 more were forming. This is when I decided to go to the doctor.

I am a nurse and had abd. surgery at another hospital. I was put into a room with another patient that had a wound vac for an infection. I have MRSA now, the worst form that you can have, resistant to almost everything. Two surgerys later and a hole in my abdomen I still battle it. My life has been turned upside down and I can not return to work as a nurse. This disease will kill you, so please beware.
