Welcome to the Family Fork

Healthline
Welcome to “The Family Fork: Feeding the Kids and You.” As a consumer, parent, child caretaker or educator you probably feel bombarded with all the conflicting messages and information you are hit with on a daily basis coming from the media, other parents and well-meaning friends. One minute you hear that we should give our children juice instead of sugary soft drinks because juice is healthier, the next thing you know you turn around and hear that juice is ‘bad’ for our kids because it has just as much sugar as soda!

That’s why I am very excited to start blogging and to share tips and hints about healthy eating and lifestyles for the whole family. My goal is to not only offer you useful information and tools that you can actually use, but to also help you make sense of all the confusing messages out there. I want you to feel that you are making the healthiest decisions you can for you and your family. If you’re not a parent but look after children in say a daycare setting, or you act as a guardian or you are teacher with them all day, I want you to feel you are doing the best you can by the children in your care. So if you are the one making the decisions about what to put on the end of the ‘family’ fork, or in the kids’ lunchbox or in your schools, this is the place for you!

I am also looking forward to hearing from you. What do you most want to know and learn about nutrition and food for yourself, your family, your kids? Let’s work together to fill this blog with practical advice and information. I will work to tailor future postings around what you most want to learn and read about. Send along your questions and share your personal experiences so we can all benefit from real world examples. Until next time, have a fruit and veggie filled day!
