Here is Friday Fast Fitness - A nice stretch for inside leg and hip that does not involve sitting. It is called Rocket Ship:
- Lie face down. Feel both hipbones touch flat on the floor.
- Bring one knee out to the side. Don't rock or tilt to the side. Keep both hipbones flat on the floor.
- Bring the other knee out to the other side. Breathe. Relax.

Anonymous, I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. What you describe is common. I wish we could get surgeons to listen too. Write and send him a simple note saying you hurt more, just what you said here. Let's get you feeling better quickly. Go to my free web site page on neck pain. It explains common causes and what to do to stop those causes. Try each thing, making sure you do everything the way it is supposed to be - without causing any pain, and making things better right when you try it. See if you can come to the Fix Pain workshops. Do not feel alone, and do not get pressured into any more surgery. There are healthier ways. Keep us posted. Hang in there.

Dear Dr. Bookspan (Jolie),
Do you have some hints for how to eventually end up in the position shown? When I try to do this one, my feet can't get anywhere near the floor if I get my knees bent. If I keep my feet on the floor, I can hardly bend my knees outward. Any suggestions you have on intermediate positions would be very helpful.
Thanks!

Anonymous, another thing that must be checked - is the area hot, swollen (infected)? Did they put you in a brace or collar that is too tight or in a bad position? Did they put in rods or other hardware that is pushing your neck into painful position?
Being made worse or no better after surgery is unfortunately common, and something I work with often, with the previously posted info and others. However, infection or circulation issues must be checked and attended to right away by your docs. Please check.

Teresa, good work. Just let your feet come up. Relax and enjoy this one.
Sometimes we call this stretch "T.V. pose." Many people used to lie easily on the floor that way as kids, until they were told to stop it and sit in a chair. We need to get back to some fun.
